“Today, Talha Ahsan, a British poet with Asperger’s, marks his 34th Birthday alone in solitary confinement at a US Supermax prison, having recently completed 7 years of detention without trial. The contrasting ways in which the UK political elite have dealt with US requests for the extradition of Talha Ahsan and Gary McKinnon highlight an ongoing process of racialisation in the name of the War on Terror, a process that both legitimises police violence and contributes to the immunity of political authorities.”
